Take Action at Shingobee Timbers This Summer!

Girls in grades 7-12 All sessions for girls in grades 7-12 Babysitters Club Grades 7-10 4 days Start a great career as a super sitter. You will spend one day of training to earn your Red Cross Babysitter’s Certificate and receive your own Babysitter’s Handbook. After your training session, you’ll get a chance to dabble in other camp activities such as games, swimming, archery, and crafts. June 15-June 18 Shingobee Timbers Program Center $195 July 6-July 9 Shingobee Timbers Program Center $195 *Boundary Water Canoe Trips* Grades 7-10 3-10 days Experienced canoe guides take you on an adventure paddling and portaging lakes along the Minnesota-Canada border in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. See the Northern Lakes Canoe Base page for complete registration form and details. *Counselor-In-Training I (CIT*** I) Grades 9-12 2 weeks Ready to transition from a camper to a counselor? For a few hours each day, you will spend time in training sessions with the CIT counselor. Spend the rest of the day applying your new skills with a group of girls. You will have the opportunity to: develop your leadership style, learn how to teach songs/games to a group of girls, understand the roles of a camp counselor, and still have time to enjoy camp activities such as canoeing, cooking over a fire, and participating in all camp activities. All CIT’s will be awarded a certificate of achievement. Successful completion of this program satisfies the prerequisite for CIT II. Dates include a wekend break. CIT's must be picked up on Friday's and cannot stay on site for the weekend. July 6-July 18 Shingobee Timbers $200 July 27-August 8 Shingobee Timbers $200 *Counselor-In-Training II (CIT* II) Grades 10-12 2 weeks Build on your leadership experiences from CIT I. As a CIT II, you will meet with the CIT counselor daily for your assignments. Each day you will work with a different group of girls to plan, organize, and lead an activity. You can shadow administrative, kitchen, health care and maintenance staff, and learn all aspects of what makes a camp operate. You can not complete CIT II in the same summer as CIT I. Prerequisite: CIT I from prior year or grade requirement. Dates include a weekend break. Counselors in training must be picked up on Friday’s and canoot stay on site for the weekend. Experience the challenge course, go for a nighttime paddle, star gaze, create crafts, try your aim at archery, cook over a fire, take a swim in the morning, sing songs, go for a hike, check out nature, play volleyball, and more! You will go crazy just trying to fit everything in. Parents, moms, dads, brothers, sisters, even grandma and grandpa. Whoever you consider to be your family. Choose as a family from a variety of activities to participate in. Enjoy one meal cooked over the fire and check out all camp has to offer. August 2 10am-5 pm Shingobee Timbers $15 per person (3 and under free) *Guide-In-Training* Ages 16 and over Minimum 3 trips Learn to lead a wilderness canoe trip for girls ages 12-18, including adults. You must attend a minimum of 3 trips to assure adequate training. We recommend consecutive training trips; however, we will work with your schedule. Room and board are provided during training. June-August Canoe Base & Tent $250 Horselovers Grades 5-8 6 days Learn and practice western-style riding skills, safety, horse care, and horse tack at Tamahay Girls Camp. You will have a riding lesson for 1 hour and 15 minutes each day. Return to camp for singing, swimming, cook-outs, crafts, and more. Because of high demand, you cannot attend this session 2 years in a row. MUST have completed Horselovers the previous year. July 20-July 25 Shingobee Timbers Tent Cabins $325 *Island Adventure* Grades 7- 10 4 days Take an adventure in kayaks! Practice strokes, balance, and safety skills at camp and then put your skills to the test when you kayak across the lake to stay overnight at the Chippewa National Forest Island. Watch a sunset, listen to the loons, and sing songs around a campfire. When you kayak back to camp, unpack and take part in camp activities such as crafts and camp games. June 22-June 25 Shingobee Timbers Program Center $195 August 3-August 6 Shingobee Timbers Program Center $195 *Program Aid* Grades 7-12 6 days Work with younger girls, improve your camping skills, and learn how to lead songs and games, while you earn and receive your Program Pin. Each day there will be a training session and then you will work with a counselor to provide an awesome experience for campers. You will have the chance to work towards the completion of your 25 service hours, while enjoying camp activities throughout the week. Learn about different scrapbooking techniques, take pictures at camp and make a camp scrapbook. Bring your own Girl Scout pictures and scrapbooking materials to share throughout the week. You will also have time to participate in favorite camp activities such as canoeing, camp fires, and more! Start on the low challenge course and as the week progresses build your confidence to the high challenge course. Try the flying squirrel, test your ability on walking across the postman’s line, climb to new heights on the climbing wall and then rappel or zip line your way back down to the ground. You will have plenty of time to go kayaking, try your aim at archery, and other camp activities. Begin your week working on paddling strokes, learning about safety on the water, low-impact camping, portaging, and working as a team. Your group will then set off for a two-day adventure down the Crow Wing River. When you arrive back at camp enjoy a hot shower, camp activities, and sharing memories with your new friends. July 6-July 11 Shingobee Timbers Program Center $275 *Wranglers* Grades 7-12 13 days Get ready to experience horses for 2 weeks. Travel to Tamahay Girls Camp for a riding lesson each day (M-F). After the lesson, enhance your experience by feeding the horses and learning about equestrian careers. There’s plenty of time for camp favorites such as swimming, crafts, and cook-outs. Must have previous camp experience and be comfortable being away from home for 2 weeks! You will start on our low challenge course working as a team to get through the spider web, spinning wheel, the wall, and whale watch. As the week progresses build your confidence for the High Climbing Wall. Once you reach the top of the climbing wall, you will rappel down with the help from your teammates. There will be plenty of time to go kayaking, try your aim at archery, and other camp activities. Learn how to use a rod and reel, bait your own hook and what types of bait/lures are used to catch certain types of fish. Try your luck on the lake catching one of the many sun fish, bass, or northern pike. In between fishing time, you will have time to participate in other camp activities, such as crafts, cook-outs, or even swimming with fish. Go for a hike and identify trees and animal tracks; navigate your way with a map and compass, become a gourmet cook over the fire, make a craft using materials from nature, explore the bog or even decide to spend the night in a tent by the lake. When you are not exploring the wilderness around you, you will have plenty of time for swimming, archery, games, and more!
