Investing In Volunteers

Our learning and development courses for GSMWLP volunteers equip them to understand and be effective in their new position, especially that of our Troop/Group Leader & Co-Leader. We encourage all volunteers to familiarize themselves with our organization by completing the GSUSA on-line orientation. We do however require that both Leader & Co-Leader attend Council Basics for the Troop Module as well as complete the Leadership Essentials course either by self-study, or an in person course, preferably within the first three months the troop or group is organized. But that's just the beginning of resources and support available to our valued volunteers! We offer a wide variety of other courses, workshops, tools, mentors and more. We belive that this aids in preparing our volunteers with the knowledge and skills so girls in our communities can build courage, confidence and character to make the world a better place.

If you don't see a scheduled session that works with your busy life, please contact your Community Coordinator or Membership Services Specialist and we can work together to make sure you get the training you need.

Online GSUSA Volunteer Orientation

The online GSUSA volunteer orientation is the first, close-up view of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America organization and is recommended for all new volunteers. It's a fast and easy way to acquaint yourself with Girl Scouting and the many rewarding opportunities it offers in just about twenty (20) minutes.

This engaging online session sets the foundation in six (6) sections. They are as follows:

1.  Introduction and Welcome which provides quick navigation instructions.

2.  About Girl Scouts presents the Girl Scout Mission, Promise and Law, our history, and membership requirements.

3.  Girl Scout Pathways illustrates the various ways that members participate.

4.  Support for Volunteers provides resources, tools and support available to our valued volunteers.

5.  Program presents the three keys to the Girl Scout Leaderhsip Expereince which are: discover – connect – take action, and their outcomes, and the three processes: girl-led, learning by doing, cooperative learning.

6.  Learning Log and Conclusion allows a place for our learners to answer questions and of course be thanked! Thank you!!!

Under My Wing Mentor

Our goal is to have mentors in each service unit who could take new leaders under their wing and guide them throughout the first year of service. Mentors should have 3+ years of Girl Scout involvement. We encourage all Community Coordinators to identify mentors in their area for this course. All mentors will earn an Under My Wing Mentor pin. For each year of mentoring a new leader, a feather charm is earned.

Songs & Games

This session is as much fun as it is helpful. Learn songs and games for Thinking Day, Girl Scout week and Court of Award ceremonies. Bring paper, pen, a tape recorder, and a blank tape.
