Leadership Programs for Ages 15+
Does it seem like you've been waiting to be a camp counselor forever? Are you finally old enough to learn the inside scoop of camp know-how? If so, make sure you've got room in your knapsack to take home all of the skills you'll finesse during your time at camp! By the end of your session, you'll have your very own counselor's bag of tricks, marked with your stamp of individuality and expertise! You must be eager to know what sorts of cool skills you'll be learning, practicing, and innovating as counselors in training, so here's a little sneak peak inside a counselor's best friend: her tools of the trade! Counselor-in-Training programs are a combination of skill development, experience, imagination, and maturity. In order to best serve leadership program participants and Camp Roundelay, we have an application process for all leadership programs. In this way we can best make the programs meaningful for everyone involved. When you sign up for one of these programs we will send you the appropriate information packet and application. Leadership styles are as varied as each individual. Our leadership programs are designed to help girls: - Develop outdoor skills
- Learn group management and teaching skills
- Understand the role of a counselor
- Develop camp program.
- Gain knowledge of resident camp and the benefits it offers
CIT 1: Hands and Heart: Service in Action Ages 15-18 12 nights Service to others is a huge part of Girl Scouting, and is also one of our priorities at camp! As Counselors in Training (CIT's), you will engage in service projects which may range from giving a camp building a shiny new coat of paint, to getting sudsy-wudsy and shining up our new dining hall floor! Maybe you'll learn to use power tools, or to build rain shelters so our cook-outs can be dry on cloudy days ? it's up to you and your CIT group to decide how you'd like to serve our home away from home: camp! Another aspect of service that we will engage with is that of service to others. You'll have the opportunity to become a "big sister" to a Tadpole or FROG camper, or to assist a cabin of younger girls with brainstorming and planning their own service project to carry out at camp. Using your hands and heart, you'll have the chance to share yourself and your talents with others! July 27 - August 8 Camp Roundelay $245 Session #135 CIT 2: Jane of all Trades Ages 16-18 12 nights A big part of being a camp counselor is having basic skills to teach younger campers about the great things we do at camp! You'll practice your swimming, canoeing, and kayaking out on the waters of Lake Reflection so that you can be a expert water whiz! A trip to Echo Lake Ranch to get the inside scoop on horseback riding is another key component of your camp experience. You'll also practice building campfires, assisting with cook-outs, and crafting cool new art -- all skills which will definitely come in handy as you become a camp counselor extraordinaire! You will plan and carry out activities with younger girls. July 13 – July 25 Camp Roundelay $200 Session #116 CIT 3: Junior Staff: A Counselor’s Bag of Tricks Ages 17-18 12 nights Put your skills and leadership experience to work. Work with staff and girls to create a successful and fun weekly schedule. Work directly with a unit/group. Following CIT 3 you may apply to become a Junior Staff member. Junior Staff may choose to stay and work during the summer to gain experience. Girls may choose to be asked to repeat this program. July 13 – July 25 Camp Roundelay $100 Session #102
